AYALA-ESPERANZA: WINNER OF THE LA MARTINA SILVER CUP 2009 IN SOTOGRANDE

To understand my excitement after their victory and my nerves during the match of Ayala-Esperanza against Woodchester, on Sunday afternoon, the 16^th of August, I have to take you some twenty years back into my history in Sotogrande. As I mention somewhere else in this webpage, I was born and grew up in Eindhoven, the Dutch city of light, brought into our world by the Philips Company, where I made many business friends in those years as one of their free-lance marketing consultants.

From the same city comes a gentleman called Rinie Korst, who, one of these particular coincidences in life, I met again twenty years ago in Sotogrande when he was playing polo with his own team and own horses. You can imagine that, both coming from the same home-town and having various friends and acquaintances in common, we became close polo (and real estate) friends.

Now, after almost twenty years, I am not supporting Rinie anymore –he stopped playing- but his son Kevin, who I saw growing up during many polo “holidays” here in Sotogrande untill he became a player also, now various years ago.

This summer Kevin plays medium goal, but I am sure he will play high goal soon. As for sure will also do his friend Jake Zobel, who probably will take over his father Iñigo’s place in the nearest future (please don’t get angry at me Iñigo, we all pass these moments and feelings).

Meanwhile we started here in Sotogrande with the first matches of the gold cup. I will keep you posted about “my” boys.
